Novice


Novice hockey is for 7 and 8 year old's as of December 31. The players will vary from beginners that are learning basic hockey skills to those that have more experience.

  • INTRODUCTION TO HALF-ICE HOCKEY;
  • 7 and 8 year old's as of December 31;
  • 16 half-ice games, 30 half-ice practices;
  • Competitive Tiering Model - NEW Alberta One Model (Tier's 1-6);
  • Improved Season Structure & Standards of Play;
  • Improved consistency with practice/games (Geographical locations time, etc.);
  • Team size: 18-20 players;
  • No full-time goaltenders;
  • Increased playing time (Increased shifts during game-time, less time spent at faceoffs);
  • Increased puck touches, passes, shots;
  • Increased awareness/ability to play in traffic and tight spaces;
  • Increased shots on net for goaltenders;
  • Blue pucks only;
  • 1 team per dressing room;
  • Instruction from Certified Lead Instructors and Support Instructors (1:10 ratio);
  • Increased Development of Technical Skills (Skating, Puck-handling, Passing, and Shooting);
